"Davydenko is innocent, I am 90% sure. I would be shocked if they found him guilty."
"Davydenko has always played great in first sets and had difficulties to finish matches... It's been with him from junior years... He could destroy opponents in first set and lead 4:0 in the second and lose these matches... It's a pattern that follows him for a very long time and it's probably affected his mentality..."
"I can easily imagine a couple of Russian guys (they should have quite a positive amount of money, so maybe it even was mafia, who knows ?) who know exactly what stands behind the odds. With 1.000.000 euro it is easy to inflate or deflate the odds, no matter what the volume on
Betfair is. Give me 10 guys with 100.000 euro each and I can easily do the same. Then it is easy to sell some rumours to local newspapers and the bigger ones will catch it too, especially when some - sorry for the word - idiots will shout for alarm because they lost their money on 1.15 bet on Davydenko in 1st round of minor tournament. Rumours will start spreading with the speed of light, especially when gambling has become such a big part of the industry. The result is that 10 guys made quite a big sum of money and they are happy, 100.000 guys lost and they are crying, newspapers have the story to sell for two months and Davydenko lost all the confidence because he is surrounded by detectives and police, while being innocent. With these money it is the action that could be invented in 24 hours probably."

You underestimate the power of motivation in tennis. What was the motivation for Davydenko to play in claycourt swing between Wimbledon and US Open series (three tournaments in three weeks). My answer is: none. Zero motivation for a Top3 player. So why did he play? He commited earlier, he had contracts with the organisers of Umag and Sopot for sure. He was also slightly injured in Sopot (confirmed by the doctors) - why to risk more serious injury before US Open ? Everybody know that Davydenko plays there where money is. He does not give a damn about Sopot, Umag or Gstaad. He can go there, take the appearance fee and disappear. It is not moral but it also is not match fixing. Many players were doing it in the past and only recent memory of Djokovic in Madrid in even bigger tournament.
The real story was that Davydenko threw this match in Sopot and the unlucky coincidence was that there was such a stupid move on
Betfair. With this one match a lot of (censored) has sticked to him and now he cannot get clean. Believe me, Davydenko IS NOT fixing his matches for money. Some people used him knowing that he is likely to throw the match away and now Davydenko has a badge "fixer". Go ask Djokovic, Volandri, Monfils, Melzer and probably 20 more players who lost some idiotic matches this season. Are they fixers too? Because the scenario was more or less the same like in Davydenko's case except there was no big money on
Betfair then. And the money that was on
Betfair was not Davydenko's or his brother's or relatives'. The money that was on
Betfair was from some clever punters who got the information about Davydenko's injury and who knew that Davydenko will withrdaw. But Davydenko HAS COMPLETELY NOTHING to do with the money on
Betfair. He just threw away the match just like Djokovic and others. For me it is almost a sure thing but people have to have some explanation for their losses."
"BTW after Sopot I was watching an interview with Davydenko. Not some highlights, but full, half-an-hour interview in TV about this scandal. You know that when someone is lying - it is visible. THe same is visible when someone is telling the truth. Body language, interpersonal communication - name it as you wish. By certain gestures you are sure that one is lying or telling the truth. And from what I saw I am sure that Davydenko was not lying. He said that during the training he was talking with his wife Irina about his foot problems and that he does not want to risk before US Open. The training was on the side courts where a lot of people were walking and everything could be heard. He said that if he is not feeling well - he will certainly give up, because his goal is US Open. Someone MUST have heard that. In the same interview Davydenko sweared to God that he never took a single bet in his life and that he was shocked when he heard how much money people put on betting. He was aware that betting exists of course, but he thought that people are betting 100 dollars and not 100.000 euro. In this interview he looked really convincing and I am sure that he was telling the truth.
And to sum up - just like you don't have any proofs of Davydenko's fixing - I don't have any proofs that he is not a fixer. But I have a very strong feeling that he was not even aware of what is going on. And this feeling is such strong that it almost goes to the borders of certainity. I wish that I am right, but such feelings are usually good. I have nothing more to say as I said it already 10 000 times - Davydenko is innocent for me and he is the victim of rumours and unfair accusations."
