Contributed Rake Method

Each player that puts money into the pot is assigned an equal amount of the rake. Note the difference here is that only players who put money into the pot (or contribute to the pot) are assigned rake. It does not matter how much each player contributes, just that they put any amount of money into the pot.

For example in a 10 handed game with $5/$10 blinds it folds to the button who raises to $25. The small blind calls but the big blind folds making the pot $60. The button and small blind check it down so the final pot is $60 and the rake is $3. Three players contributed to the pot so each player is awarded a third of the rake which is $1.

This method is less favourable for tight players and more favourable for looser players. Looser players will contribute to more pots and so will be assigned more rake in the process.

Weighted Contributed Method

Using this method the amount of rake assigned to each player is directly proportional to how much they contribute to the pot. If a player does not contribute any money to the pot then they are not assigned any rake. In this way this method is the complete opposite of the dealt method.

For example in a 10 handed game with $5/$10 blinds it folds to the button who raises to $25. The small blind calls but the big blind folds making the pot $60. The button and small blind check it down so the final pot is $60 and the rake is $3.

The small blind and the button have each contributed $25 out of $60 and so are awarded 5/12 of the rake which equals $1.25 each. The big blind who posted his $10 blind before folding contributed $10 out of $60 so is assigned 1/6 of the rake which is $0.50. And just to check the maths $1.25 plus $1.25 plus $0.50 does indeed equal $3.

This method clearly favours players who like to get involved in a lot of pots and as the amount of rake assigned to each players relates directly to how much money they have risked some would say that this method is the fairest poker rake method.
