"ZWEITE BUNDESLIGA STATUS:
Mainz can kiss promotion good bye after losing 1-3 against Furth at home, last Friday. Not the score is the real problem and those 3 points lost, but the way Mainz played: no passion, no will, no eficiency.
Trier, another team with some promotion hopes, lost 1-2 at home against Reutlinge. Again, the way the home side played was the cause of this home defeat but in Trier's case it's all about limits: they can't resist in the long run.
Ahlen, after a spectacular 4-2 win away at Karlsruher, lost 2 points at home when Duisburg payed them a visit and the game endd 0-0. Another goalles draw was between Braunschweig and Burghausen while Frankfurt ended 1-1 at home with Alemannia Aachen. Oberhausen proved to be strong at home as usual when defetead 3-0 poor Sankt Pauli.
Promotion chasers Koln and Freiburg both won 3-0 away from home and look big favorites to finish the season in the first 2 positions.
In the table the last 4 teams find themslevs 5-6 points bellow the first secure position and this round Karlsruher, Pauli, Mannheim and Braunschweig will fight desperate for their chances.Ahlen, Reutlingen and Union Berlin are the 3 teams above the relegation line and any wrong step might bring them back “in hell”.
Places 6-11 are peacefull and teams like Ahlen, Furth, Oberhausen, Duisburg, Burghausen and Lubeck will not have troubled moments until the end of the season while Mainz and Trier will wait for Frankfurt, Freiburg and Koln to make wrong steps in the following rounds in order to regain their faith in promotion.
Koln – Mainz and Frankfurt – Treir will be played this round and this might be the key of the promotion! If Mainz and Trier lose then the fight is over and the top 3 clubs will have no other worry but to maintain the difference.
All in all this is an interesting round and with Karlsruher – Braunschweig match it even more attractive!

THE HOME SIDE STATUS:
Eintracht Frankfurt - not so many years back this team was a strong side in Erste Bundesliga and european-cup places were usual performances at the end of each season.
Now they are in the second league, missed promotion last season despite a big budget and fight again to go up in the best german league. They are now inside promotion places with 47 points, on 3rd place, 4 points above Mainz 05. With a good attack, the second best defense overall and the first defense at home, Frankfurt is a strong team that can be trusted by the punters.
THE AWAY TEAM STATUS:
Trier, the surprise of the season, newly promoted from Regionalliga they were the entire time behind promotion places and posed as a threat to any team from Zweite Bundesliga.
Unbetean on the road for 6 rounds now Trier, as newly promoted club, has acomplished things hard to imagine before the start of the season: had strong performance at home, was very hard to defeat on the road and poses an efficient attack that scored in almost all the matches played so far!
With 42 points Trier is on 5th place with 13 wins, 6 draws and 7 defeats in 25 rounds. Their attack is the second best with 43 goals scored but their defense, with 31 conceded, is an average one.
LAST PERFORMANCES FOR BOTH TEAMS:
Frankfurt is undefetead since mid-september at home when Burghausen won 2-0. Since then Braunschweig, Koln, Freiburg and most recently Aachen obtained draws on Friday's hosts pitch.
In the last rounds they obtained 5 draws and won just 3 times but only once at home when Karlsruher lost 1-2!
Trier received last round the visit of Reutlingen and lost for the first time in 8 rounds when the visitors strike 2 goals and won 2-1! After winning hard against Oberhausen 3 rounds ago at home 1-0 they won again 1-0 on the road to Aachen, after a splendid goal scored by Labak. The problems of Trier began then, at Aachen, and were much more visible last round against Reutlingen: unsure defenders, quite predictable midfield actions and not an efficient presence in front of the enemy gate. Their defense in particular was guilty for their last result as they were not able to stop the fast counterattacks of Reutlingen who could had scored even more!
NEWS FOR BOTH TEAMS:
For Frankfurt will miss Beierle – striker (2 goals scored so far) and Kryszalowicz – striker (3 goals scored so far).
For Trier will miss Braham, their main striker with 13 goals conceded (out for another three, three and a half weeks).
THE MATCH:
Frankfurt lost 2 points last round against Aachen after beeing equalised in the first half. With those 2 points they could had been on the second spot, and what is more important, 6 points above the 4th place ocuppied by Mainz with 43 points.
Looking at the missing players that Frankfurt has you can wonder if it's not an attackers crisis inside the squad?! Well, let me tell you this: their best scorer is Skela, with 7 goals, but the no other player managed to score more than 4 goals! This proves two things: 1) their power as a team and 2) the efficiency of their play (many players from different compartiments managed to score goals and very often this is the secret receipe of a succes team!).
I expect Frankfurt not to hurry but to be able to create pressure on Trier's shoulders in a match that could end with 1-2 goals difference for the home side, in an UNDER 3 goals show!
Expect a hard fighted match, few goals, quite some nerves on the pitch and a deserved win of the home side.
EDGES AND DISADVANTAGES FOR THE PUNTER:
- Trier arrived in a point where their limits have reached an end -> a small setback for 2-4 rounds is very possible. Many times before, teams that have performed well in the first 2 thirds of the season had a blockage point where 2-3 defeats in a row (or even more) are something common.
- Trier others attackers, Laback and Winkler though play constant do not score constantly!
- The overall group force is in favor of Frankfurt and this match, beeing an important one between two powerful teams of the league, will be decided by this element as well (together with a moment of brilliance from one player or another).
CONCLUSION:
Take this handicap and place 10 units for a home win.
