Greg Maddux opens the season for the Braves with a fully healthy team for a change. Not a whole lot of different names for Atlanta with the exception of Robert Fick at 1st base, a nice choice in my opinion. All 3 outfielders have been hitting well this spring and a healthy Mark Derosa and Marcus Giles will be welcomed back. hard to believe they stuck with Vinny Castilla at 3rd, but I guess with the addition of Fick and his firepower at bat, they can afford to think defensively at third. Here's some stats on Maddux:

Day games: 7-1, 1.63 ERA
Home: 11-3, 2.48 ERA
vs MON: 1-0, 2.42 ERA
Tony Armas gets the start today for the Expos. Javier Vasquez, who can be "scary good" when he has his stuff working and was the scheduled opening day starter, has a slight calf muscle strain and will not play. Also notably absent will be Cliff Floyd, traded towards the end of the year last year, and the best player on the team - Vladimir Guerrero, who will miss today and tomorrow due to a suspension handed down by the league for a brawl he was involved in during spring training. Here are some of Armas' numbers:

Day games: 2-5, 7.47 ERA
Away: 5-6, 4.87 ERA
Turner Field: 0-1, 6.94 ERA
vs Atlanta: 0-4, 5.72 ERA
Anyway you look at it, Atlanta's got the advantage. Normally I don't bet the first few days of the season, and normally I don't take teams at such short odds, but with the impromptu start of Armas, and the suspension of Guerrero, this looks too good to pass up. "
